Tourmaline

An ancient Egyptian legend says that tourmaline got its extraordinary colors on its way from the Earth to the sun, soaking up the beautiful colors of the rainbow. It was called the "jewel of the rainbow." Brazilian Indians call it "running stone" because of its many colors. They believed that tourmaline is one of the first stones materialised on the planet and its purpose is to generate energy that people have used before using coarse meal. Even today there are some people (white Indians) living in the Andes which feed on the energy of tourmaline.

There is a famous crown of the Czech kings, said to have killed the person who wears it without having the right to do so. It was believed to have been inserted ruby but modern analysis proved that it is in fact tourmaline. Similar is the story of the famous Ruby of Cesar presented by Swedish King Gustav to Catherine the Great. It is a extremely beautiful rubellite stone (pink tourmaline) weighing about 255 carats, brought from Burma and abnormally processed in the form of a bunch of grapes.
